今年，上海美國學校浦西校區初中部的五位學生以出人意料的方式度過了他們的課間休息和午餐時間：練習古詩詞吟唱。

The Shanghai Municipal Education Commission hosted a performance competition this year on the theme of “Chanted Poetry, Beautiful Classics.” Middle school Chinese teacher Joan Xu assembled a team to join other schools around Shanghai in encouraging international students to know and appreciate Chinese culture. She knew she wanted a poem that was rich with story, where the students could not only recite but act. She chose “Mulan” and the students began memorizing the poetry at home, while spending their free times at school rehearsing.

上海市教育委員會今年舉辦了主題為“吟中國詩詞，唱千古美文”的古詩詞吟唱比賽。上海美國學校初中部中文老師Joan Xu組建了一支參賽隊伍，與上海的其他學校同臺競技，旨在鼓勵國際學生了解和欣賞中國文化。她希望找一首內容豐富的古詩，讓學生們不僅能夠吟唱，還能夠表演。她選擇了《木蘭辭》。學生們開始在家里背誦這首詩歌，然后利用課余時間在學校進行排練。

“Their performances always exceeded my expectations,” said Joan Xu. After weeks of practice they donned costumes and finally made a video to submit for the judging. The result? SAS was awarded theMiddle School Group First Prize, an Excellent Organization Award, and for Joan Xu herself, the Excellent Tutor Prize.

Joan Xu表示：“他們的表現總能超出我的預期”。經過幾周的練習，學生們穿上表演服裝，錄制了比賽視頻并提交給了組委會。結果？上海美國學校榮獲了初中組一等獎和最佳組織獎。Joan Xu則榮獲了最佳指導老師獎。
