今年年初，融合部的孩子們參加了中國(guó)英文拼字大賽、美國(guó)學(xué)術(shù)五項(xiàng)全能（及十項(xiàng)全能）中國(guó)站的比賽，應(yīng)對(duì)各種挑戰(zhàn)，并取得了令人欣慰的成績(jī)。應(yīng)對(duì)各種全國(guó)性的學(xué)術(shù)挑戰(zhàn)，他們?nèi)〉昧肆钊诵牢康某煽?jī)。

Have you tried to memorize thousands of words in a few weeks? Have you tried to read and memorize seven English books about American history in three months? The students from Integrated Department of SSES had done it! This year, they participated in the competition of Spelling Bee of China, USAP/D China. Meeting various challenges, they achieved gratifying results.

Spelling Bee of China

Spelling Bee是全球歷史最悠久的英文賽事，歷史記載于1852年。每年100多個(gè)國(guó)家，3000多萬(wàn)選手參與該項(xiàng)賽事。在美國(guó)起源于1925年，擁有90多年歷史，受全球頂尖院校“常春藤”盟校關(guān)注。Spelling Bee比賽形式為現(xiàn)場(chǎng)拼單詞，主要考驗(yàn)孩子們的英語(yǔ)詞匯量、心理素質(zhì)和抗壓能力，Spelling Bee極具觀賞性同時(shí)也非常殘酷，只要拼錯(cuò)一個(gè)字母就會(huì)立馬被淘汰。

Spelling Bee is the most historical English competition in the world, recorded in 1852. Every year, more than 30 million athletes from more than 100 countries participate in the event. Originated in 1925 in the United States, it has a history of more than 90 years, and attracts the attention of Ivy League schools, the world's top universities. Spelling Bee competition takes the form of spelling words on the spot. It mainly tests children's English vocabulary, psychological quality and stress resistance. Spelling Bee is very ornamental and cruel. As long as one letter is misspelled, the athlete will be eliminated immediately.

尚德實(shí)驗(yàn)學(xué)校融合部小學(xué)的7名學(xué)生，于2019年1月參與了該賽事的中國(guó)區(qū)大賽。經(jīng)歷了5輪比賽，獲得全國(guó)16強(qiáng)的好成績(jī)；并將于2019年4月赴北京參加Spelling Bee中國(guó)區(qū)總決賽。孩子們還同時(shí)獲得了全美頂尖大學(xué)普林斯頓大學(xué)ITSO學(xué)校團(tuán)體賽的參賽資格，期待他們能夠在總決賽中取得優(yōu)異成績(jī)！

Seven students from PYP Department participated in the China Regional Competition in January 2019. After five rounds of competition, they won the top 16 in China and will go to Beijing in April 2019 to participate in Spelling Bee of China Final Competition.Besides, these students are also invited to participate in the ITSO (International Team Spelling Olympics) training camp and ITSO Princeton University International Tournament on behalf of China and SSES this July.We look forward to their excellent results in the finals!

USAP/D

美國(guó)學(xué)術(shù)十項(xiàng)全能（USAD）作為美國(guó)首屈一指的高中生綜合學(xué)術(shù)學(xué)術(shù)活動(dòng)平臺(tái)，迄今已有近五十年歷史。USAD包含十個(gè)科目，其中有七個(gè)客觀題考試科目，分別為藝術(shù)，經(jīng)濟(jì)，文學(xué)，數(shù)學(xué)，音樂(lè)，科學(xué)，社會(huì)科學(xué)；另外有三個(gè)主觀考試科目：演講，面試與寫(xiě)作。美國(guó)學(xué)術(shù)五項(xiàng)全能（USAP）是初中版的USAD，涵蓋五種學(xué)科，包括語(yǔ)言和文學(xué)、藝術(shù)、科學(xué)、社會(huì)科學(xué)和數(shù)學(xué)。

USAD (United States Academic Decathlon), as the leading comprehensive academic competition platform for senior high school students in the United States, has a history of nearly 50 years. USAD consists of ten disciplines, including seven objective examination subjects, namely, arts, economics, literature, mathematics, music, science and social sciences, and three subjective examination subjects: speech, interview and writing. USAP (United States Academic Pentathlon) is a junior high school version of USAD, covering five disciplines, including language and literature, art, science, social sciences and mathematics.

USAP/D每年的比賽都有一個(gè)特定的主題，組委會(huì)根據(jù)當(dāng)年主題及美國(guó)頒布的教學(xué)標(biāo)準(zhǔn)編寫(xiě)更新學(xué)術(shù)活動(dòng)學(xué)科教材，讓選手可以通過(guò)全新的視角和系統(tǒng)的思維進(jìn)行學(xué)習(xí)，激發(fā)新的學(xué)術(shù)興趣，提高學(xué)習(xí)能力。USAP/D has a specific theme every year. The organizing committee compiles and updates contest textbooks according to the current theme and the teaching standards promulgated by the United States, so that competitors can learn through new perspectives, think systematically, stimulate new academic interest and improve learning ability.

2019年2月，尚德融合部初中和高中共61名學(xué)生赴成都參加了USAP/D中國(guó)站的比賽。經(jīng)歷了兩天的激烈角逐，融合部中學(xué)楊謙好Lily（7A攀滕班）獲得了USAP藝術(shù)個(gè)人銅獎(jiǎng)，向宇軒Bob（6C攀滕班）獲得了USAP數(shù)學(xué)個(gè)人銅獎(jiǎng)，融合部高中團(tuán)隊(duì)獲得了USAD創(chuàng)新測(cè)評(píng)的銅獎(jiǎng)。能在數(shù)百優(yōu)秀學(xué)校、數(shù)千參賽者中取得成績(jī)實(shí)屬不易，期待孩子們能夠不忘初心、砥礪前行，拿出更優(yōu)異的成績(jī)來(lái)！In February 2019, 61 students from MYP and DP Department of SSES went to Chengdu to participate in the USAP/D China. After two days of fierce competition, Lily from MYP won the USAP Individual Bronze Prize for Art, Bob from MYP won the USAP Individual Bronze Prize for Mathematics, and the team from DP was awarded the USAD Assessment Center Bronze Prize. It is not easy to get awarded among thousands of contestants from hundreds of excellent schools. We hope that students will carry their initial desire for learning and move forward, and bring out more excellent results.

"This time that I get the prize is totally out of my anticipation. Both the preparation of the USAP and the test benefit me a lot. It was really a hard time for me when preparing for the test. Facing the large amount of reviewing material, I didn’t even know where I should start. So, I think the prize is very precious to me, because it is the reward of my efforts spent on USAP."

Firstly, it is a great honor for our team to win the prize in USAD China. Before the competition, we made a daily learning plan for every subject and clocked in the group regularly. Although we did not receive the most desirable result in the competition, we still learned a lot of new knowledge and improved our teamwork ability in this USAD competition. We believe that we can do better in the next time.
