G5-6
All the fifth and sixth graders participated in an unannouncedfire drill on Tuesday, February 26th.A fire emergency can happen any moment. To best protect all the students, teachers, and janitors from an interior fire, school has an effective fire safety plan set in place every semester. A clearly marked escape route that was as short and direct as possible was held in every single classroom. Students were supposed to know about the routes at the very beginning of the new semester.
The 5th and 6th graders took the fire drill seriously. They lined up immediately at the door when the fire alarms went off. All of them arrived at the designated safety location quickly and calmly with towels covering their noses. The fire drill monitors raised up the green class cards, which showed everybody was safe.
Even though they were drills, they were very important because through practice, students learned what to do and how to behave in an emergency.
G7-8
Meanwhile, the fire drill was held to help students of 7th and 8th grade become more aware of the dangers of a real fire. The students were able to understand the precautions to preventing a fire, and overall the best strategies to avoid being harmed. None of the students panicked when the fire alarm rang, instead they quickly ran to the door and lined up neatly. When the teachers opened the doors, the students moved swiftly towards the stairs and followed one after another down to the first floor. Despite the hallways being crowded, the groups of people were efficient in giving way to others who were in front of or next to them.
When the students exited the building, they remained in their lines and walked with their teachers to the tracks. Prearranged lines and positions allowed classes to quickly find their place to await the directors’ command to return to the building. The students returned shortly to the building to continue their classes and reflect on whether their behavior was acceptable in an urgent situation. The fire drill was over, and students learned more than just engagements with fire, but also the capability to remain calm in dangerous instances. The fire drill was a success, and students of SHSID have proven themselves exceptional in dealing with tough and life-threatening problems.
