Eco-Action

The Shanghai municipal government released its three-year action plan (2018-2020) regarding the city's garbage classification. According to the plan, Shanghai will increase its daily waste disposal amount to 32800 tons by 2020.The four categories of classification are “harmful, recyclable, wet and dry”. In the three years, Shanghai will also renovate more than 17,000 garbage bins and 41 large scale waste transfer stations.

Recently, the middle school p of SHSID has been actively responding to this government call by turning waste into value. A machine of “Waste into Value” has been installed at the lobby of the middle school p building, and students have been lining up to put empty bottles into the machine every lunch break. The machine encourages the students to recycle by providing tiny incentives, and the purpose of this event is to help students recycle and gain knowledge in recycling. Students in the middle school p have already learned that with the increase amount of trash produced, recycle is essential to us, and they have been doing their own parts every day.

Inspired by the EcoCap club established by the high school students, grade 5 and grade 6 students participate in another action. What they do is to collect the PP&PE plastic cap of the beverage bottles and the PET bottle bodies so that they could be regenerated into plastic products such as stationery. The club members placed their own EcoCap recycling bins in each classroom, and let students put their empty bottles and bottle caps into the recycling bin separately. Most of the activities focus occur during noon. The club members were divided into groups and recycled plastic bottles from each building every week. Every Tuesday afternoon, they collect the remaining bottle caps in the recycling bin. With the help of all the grade 5 and 6 students, they donate the earnings to Global Association for Child Vaccines to help children, integrate environmental protection with public welfare.

We pursue not only people's benevolence, but also respect for our planet. Although each one of these activities is insignificant, by pooling forces from each person, we can garner huge environmental protection forces and contribute to the benefit of society and Earth.

上海市政府去年發布了《上海市垃圾分類三年行動計劃(2018-2020)》。根據該計劃，到2020年，上海每天的垃圾處理量將增加到32800噸，在未來三年，上海還將改造垃圾桶和大型廢物轉運站。

上海中學國際部初小段積極響應政府的號召，不但在教室里進行垃圾分類的教育，還舉行了各種環保活動。最近在中學部大樓的大廳里安裝了一臺“廢品轉化成價值”的機器，每到午休時間，學生們都會排隊把空瓶子放進機器里。這臺機器通過提供微小的獎勵來鼓勵學生回收，而這次活動的目的是幫助學生獲得回收方面的知識并對保護環境更有責任感，每天都為環保做自己的一點貢獻。

五六年級的同學們還一直在通過EcoCap社團推行環保活動。他們將飲料瓶子的PP&PE塑料蓋子以及PET的瓶身收集起來，重新再生成文具等塑料產品，變廢為寶。同時，把EcoCap得到的收益捐獻給疫苗國際組織用于拯救兒童。
