This week we celebrateFounders’ Week in honor of the day we first opened our doors on September 17, 1912.

這周，我們舉行“創(chuàng)始人紀(jì)念周”活動(dòng)來(lái)慶祝1912年9月17日上海美國(guó)學(xué)校的創(chuàng)立。

Maybe you’ve seen the building. It’s certainly noticeable. A red brick Victorian-style structure modeled after Independence Hall in Philadelphia, sitting amid the plane trees along Hengshan Lu. That building is the former administration building of Shanghai American School.

你也許看到過(guò)這棟建筑。它非常顯眼。這棟紅磚建筑以位于美國(guó)費(fèi)城的獨(dú)立紀(jì)念館為原型，采用了維多利亞建筑風(fēng)格，坐落在衡山路，周?chē)L(zhǎng)滿(mǎn)了梧桐樹(shù)。這棟建筑曾是上海美國(guó)學(xué)校的行政大樓。

But here’s the part you likely haven’t seen: On each side of the main gate entrance, there are two faded plaques. Each bears an inscription that’s so worn down by the elements, it’s barely visible today. One reads, “Shanghai American School.” The other reads, “Alumni Gate 1932.” Believed to be a gift from the Class of ‘32, these gates served as a welcome, protector, and occasional hurdle to our students when the school used the campus between 1923 and 1949.

但有一個(gè)細(xì)節(jié)是你可能沒(méi)有注意到的：大門(mén)入口的兩邊各懸掛著一塊褪色的牌匾。每塊牌匾上都刻有文字，經(jīng)過(guò)風(fēng)吹日曬，這些文字幾乎已經(jīng)無(wú)法看清了。一塊牌匾上刻的文字是“上海美國(guó)學(xué)校”。另一塊則刻著“1932屆校友大門(mén)”。這兩扇大門(mén)應(yīng)該是1932屆畢業(yè)班贈(zèng)送給上海美國(guó)學(xué)校的禮物。1923年至1949年，上海美國(guó)學(xué)校在這里開(kāi)展教學(xué)活動(dòng)，而這兩扇大門(mén)則迎接以及保護(hù)著我們的學(xué)生，盡管有時(shí)候也會(huì)帶來(lái)一些不便。

Today, as we celebrate Founders'Week 2019, we remain grateful to our alumni for the cultural artifacts they left us – even the ones that are hard to read.

現(xiàn)如今，隨著我們迎來(lái)2019年創(chuàng)始人紀(jì)念周，我們對(duì)我們的校友留下的文化物件表示感謝——盡管有些難以辨識(shí)。
