Darian ’29 is the sort of kid who always captures his new experiences in a drawing. Last year, when Darian spent Christmas with his family in his home country of Macedonia for the first time, he of course started drawing and writing about everything he saw and did. When his mother couldn’t find any picture books about Christmas traditions in Macedonia, they realized that Darian’s original illustrations and stories could be just that. This year, Lucky Coin became Darian’s first published story. "I like to tell people about Macedonia so they know more about my country," he said. "By making the book, I learned that I needed to think carefully about what I was writing, what words I used, and I needed to rewrite it until it was good."
Lucky Coin is available for purchase this holiday season in our Eagle Shop on the Pudong campus. In the meantime, Darian has moved onto fiction and has written his second book about a parrot named Paco…
